created: Apr 14, 2023
Esquao ‘Report Card on the Experiences of Indigenous women and 2Spirit+ people in Alberta’
Esquao is a non-profit organization that serves to amplify the voices of Indigenous women on the issues and challenges they face. We are currently conducting an anonymous online survey to follow up on 7 key issues outlined in the “113 Pathways to Justice: Recommendations of the Alberta Joint Working Group on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls” submitted to the Government of Alberta in December 2021. To complete the survey, click here or scan the QR code below. It is open now until April 21, 2023. |
Who can complete this survey? All Indigenous women and 2Spirit+ people (18 years of age +) living in Alberta.
How long will it take? Approximately 20 minutes. Do I need to download an app to open this link? No. Open your camera on your phone and hold it on the QR code, it will open up the survey. What will the survey ask? Individuals will be asked to share their experience (from January 2022 to present) in relation to 7 key issues: child welfare, court services, family violence, housing, law enforcement, victims’ services, missing persons alerts. Individuals will also be asked for your demographic information. If individuals need support, please contact someone they trust, call the National Support Line (24/7 Toll Free) 1-844-413-6649 or contact the Esquao – IAAW office at 1-877-471-2171 or 780-479-8195. Why are we asking these questions? The survey contributions will help us produce a publicly available “report card” in a final report and other online formats. The voices of Indigenous women and 2Spirit+ people will help advance key recommendations outlined in the 113 Pathways to Justice Report to benefit the lives of Indigenous women, girls and 2Spirit+ people in Alberta. Who will have access to the information and survey responses? This survey is anonymous. To respect individual privacy, all information collected in this survey will be kept confidential by Four Winds and Associates contracted by Esquao. All the results will be collected into combined statistics for our final report and other online formats. All comments will also be anonymized (not connected to any identifying information). After the final report is submitted, all surveys will be destroyed. At the end of the survey, individuals will be asked to follow another link to provide your contact information. The information will only be used to send: 1) $50 gift card as a thank you for participating (*only for the 300 survey participants) 2) Copy of the final report 3) Invitations to in-person gathering on these topics No personal information will be connected to the survey in any way. If you have any questions, please contact: Rachelle Venne, CEO at rachelle@iaaw.ca or 780-479-8195 or Toll free 1-877-471-2171. Kinanâskomitin, îsniyes, marsi cho, nitsiniiyi’taki, miigwetch, maarsii, thank you for taking the time to complete this survey and sharing it with community partners, Indigenous women and 2Spirit+ people in your community. |
