Native Counselling Services of Alberta’s mission is to promote the resilience of the lndigenous individual and family, through programs and services that are grounded in reclaiming our interconnectedness, reconciliation of relationships and self-determination.

NCSA’s Indigenous Healing Lodges house conditionally released and federally sentenced individuals. The facilities are focused on centering Indigenous cultures to support individuals through their transition back into their communities and become contributing and self-sufficient within their communities.

Currently, our Healing Lodges are looking for the right candidates to fill two full time, contract position as our Reconciliation Officers in Edmonton and Calgary.

Specific responsibilities of the position include:

• Establish a positive Indigenous cultural environment with Indigenous offenders and help them to reconcile with their communities.
• Plan, develop, facilitate, assess and evaluate the Indigenous specific cultural/traditional interventions to meet the needs of Indigenous offenders and their communities.
• Train Indigenous communities in providing trauma-informed, reconciliation processes, including peacemaking circles.
• Participate at institutional committee meetings and boards to make recommendations on inmate participation in the reconciliation program.

Our ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:

• In-depth experience and working knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, healing and language
• Demonstrated understanding of historic trauma and the impact of colonization on Indigenous people
• Degree and/or diploma in Human Services or Criminal Justice related field with extensive work history in corrections.
• Knowledge and working understanding of Parole Board of Canada, Correctional Services Canada, Corrections and Conditional Release Act.
• Proficient knowledge of working with database and information technology including Microsoft 365.
• Strong interpersonal skills such as teamwork, independent skills, conflict resolution, leadership and time management skills.
• Ability to start and build relationships with individuals, families, team members and community partners.
• Must be able to travel and work varied hours as required.
• Must have a reliable vehicle, valid Alberta driver’s license with required liability insurance and confirmation of insurance coverage to transport clients.
• Must provide a completed a criminal record check, child intervention check and may be required to pass a provincial or federal government security clearance.

Starting salary: $50,000 annual
