Role Required

The Minister of Justice and Solicitor General (JSG) is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving as Part-time Tribunal Members of the Alberta Human Rights Commission.

Location

Offices are located in Edmonton and Calgary.

About the Agency

Established under the Alberta Human Rights Act, the Commission is an independent body that reports through the Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General, with a mandate to foster equality and to reduce discrimination. It fulfills this mandate through public education and community initiatives, through the resolution and settlement of complaints of discrimination, and through human rights tribunal and court hearings.

The current membership of the Alberta Human Rights Commission is formed by the Chief Commission and Tribunals, and 14 part-time tribunal members.

Role Description

Members of the Commission (part-time Tribunal Members) conduct mediations through Tribunal Dispute Resolution process and chair hearings to adjudicate human rights complaints under the Alberta Human Rights Act.
