Job Opportunity – Urban Indigenous Peacemaker Coordinator | NATIVE COUNSELLING SERVICES OF ALBERTA

Native Counselling Services of Alberta (NCSA) is a diverse, dynamic non-government organization that is committed to the holistic wellness and equitable treatment of Alberta’s Aboriginal individuals, families and communities since 1970. NCSA is currently looking for an individual to provide coordinated services for Peacemaker Circle referrals provided by the Provincial Courts. The individual will deliver presentations and educate other organizations/ communities on Peacemaker Circles. The individual will also coordinate Restorative Justice or Peacemaker Circles for Crown referrals. This is a full time position with additional training provided.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in the social service field or equivalency with extensive experience in facilitation and mediation skills.
  • Knowledge of Restorative Justice or Peacemaker Circle processes with extensive working knowledge of Indigenous people, their culture, language and a diverse range of cultures.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, travel and work independently.
  • Experience working with Alberta Justice, Ministry of Alberta Children and Youth Services and, the Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
  • Strong interpersonal relations, communication skills, leadership, time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in the use of grammar, spelling and punctuation in the English language.
  • Professional appearance suitable for business.
  • Ability to develop budgets and perform basic financial reporting.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with required liability insurance for the position. Provide up to date driver’s abstract, criminal record check, child intervention check.
  • Working knowledge and experience with MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language to the area is a definite asset.
  • Ability to work with clients and the community in a professional, courteous manner to develop and strengthen professional working relationships.
  • Must have strong interpersonal relations, organizational, decision making, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Possess knowledge and in-depth understanding of historic trauma and its impact
  • on Indigenous people. Also must have knowledge and understanding relating to
  • Indigenous culture, ceremony and approaches to healing.
  • Must be proficient in the use of grammar, spelling and punctuation in the English
  • language. Previous public speaking is a definite asset.
  • Must become proficient with NCSA Resiliency Model and incorporate this into
  • daily interactions with clients, co-workers and the community.
